How do Aircraft GPS work

The Garmin Aviation GPS range is one of the most respected and well known aircraft GPS systems on the market today. Not many people know how they work, it is quite complicated and they are very intelligent devices. The simplest form of explaining the way the Garmin Aviation GPS work is that there are 24 satellites in space, the aircraft GPS relies upon these satellites for navigation. The data is transmitted from these satellites and is received by the GPS receiver, but there is obviously a time difference between the actual transmission and the aircraft GPS receiving the data, this is where the system comes into its own, it works out the time difference and other factors to give the user an exact location and other very important pieces of information. It requires the combined effort of numerous satellites to get a very accurate positioning on the GPS itself.

It is so important in instruments such as the Garmin Aviation GPS that every piece of information is accurate, lives can be lost if the aircraft GPS is wrong or malfunctions. The reason so many people put their trust into these devices is that they are usually very accurate and it does not matter what type of whether or what type of environment the aircraft is in.
