My company have recently been forced to change their training policy. They used to send people away on any courses that they wanted and be quite happy to pay for the training, hotel and other expenses. However, now that the recession has hit, they are starting to ask staff t only do courses when necessary. They have also been looking into doing Microsoft IT training in house rather than sending people out. I think this is a good idea, as I would rather that the company saved money and secured our jobs than sent us on expensive training courses.
They have decided to do IT CBT training and the staff will have to do the study in their own time. Many of them are cross that not only will they no longer get great breaks from the office when they want training but will have to do it in their own time. I can understand why they were initially cross but if they see it as a way of keeping their jobs and helping the companies profit margins then I am sure they will change their minds. Hopefully the company will explain to people that this is the reason they are trying this approach and then people will have a more positive attitude towards the change.
